If you have been putting off massage therapy because of the cost, student massage in Vancouver might be exactly what you have been looking for.

At Trikinetic, we offer Intern massage sessions provided by advanced massage therapy students who bring over 2,300 hours of clinical training to every appointment and a genuine passion for the work they do.

This is low cost massage that does not cut corners on quality.

It is accessible, skilled, and available right here in East Vancouver for anyone who wants consistent bodywork care without the financial pressure that can come with regular RMT appointments.

What Is an Intern Massage, Exactly?

Massage Interns have completed their full academic and hands-on training program.

They sit at the final stage before becoming fully Registered Massage Therapists and are gaining supervised clinical experience along the way before writing their licensing exams.

Because they are not yet fully registered, their sessions are offered at a reduced rate.

That makes affordable massage available to a much wider group of people, including those without extended health coverage, patients who have already maxed out their annual benefits, and anyone who wants to receive bodywork more frequently than a standard RMT rate allows.

Think of it this way: you are getting the skill without paying for the license.

The hands, the techniques, the education and the care are all there.

Meet Chloe

Our current Intern is Chloe (they/she), completing their final semester at Vancouver College of Massage Therapy. Before joining us at Trikinetic, Chloe has been providing community bodywork at Ronald McDonald House, Pacifica Treatment Centre, The Summit Intellectual Disabilities Society, and Friends for Life Society. That is not a short list.

Chloe has particular experience with hypermobility, migraines, autoimmune conditions, respiratory issues, spinal cord trauma, and Dysautonomia.  Chloe brings fluency in Swedish massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy, Joint Mobilizations, Manual Muscle Testing, Hydrotherapy, and Home Care exercises.

We asked Chloe what they are most looking forward to about working with the Trikinetic community.

Their answer: "I want to keep meeting people where they are. Everyone's body tells a different story and I find that really interesting."

That kind of curiosity is exactly what good bodywork requires. Read more about Chloe and our full team on our Meet the Team page.

Is It Actually the Same as Seeing an RMT?

This is the question most people want answered before they book. Here is an honest breakdown.

What is the same: The intake process, the assessment, the treatment plan, and the hands-on techniques are all part of every Intern session. Chloe follows the same professional framework as a fully registered therapist. You will discuss your health history, what brought you in, and what you are hoping to get out of the session. You will receive a personalized treatment.

What is different: The price and the insurance eligibility. Intern sessions are offered at a reduced rate and are not covered by extended health plans. Because interns are not yet RMTs, treatments do not qualify for reimbursement under most benefit programs. This is standard across the industry.

For most patients coming in for stress, muscle tension, or maintenance care, the practical difference in a session is minimal. For patients with complex injuries requiring a treatment plan billed to insurance, our Registered Massage Therapists are the right fit, and they direct bill to Pacific Blue Cross, Canada Life, Manulife, and most other major providers. You can find the full list on our Insurance Information page.

Who Benefits Most from Student Massage Therapy?

Intern massage tends to be especially helpful when:

  • You have run out of extended health benefits for the year and want to keep your treatment plan moving forward
  • You do not have health coverage and need a more accessible path to regular care
  • You are currently seeing an RMT and want additional support between appointments
  • You are managing ongoing muscle tension, stress, disrupted sleep, or recovery from physical activity
  • You are new to massage and want to explore it without committing to full RMT pricing

A lot of patients we see in East Vancouver work physically demanding jobs or are on their feet all day in the Commercial Drive,  Mount Pleasant and East Van areas. They know they need regular bodywork but cannot always justify the full cost every two to three weeks. Intern Massage bridges that gap.

Because sessions are priced at a reduced rate, many patients use them to increase their frequency of care. Instead of stretching one appointment across six weeks and losing the progress you have built, you can actually stay consistent.

The Benefits Are Real

The physical outcomes from student massage are what you would expect from any skilled bodywork session:

  • Relief from muscle soreness, tightness, and chronic tension
  • Improved circulation and support for lymphatic flow
  • Reduced joint stiffness and better range of motion
  • Support for injury recovery and rehabilitation
  • Better sleep and measurable stress reduction
  • Decreased anxiety and improved mood over time

Consistency is what unlocks most of those benefits. One massage helps. Regular massage changes things. Learn more about what massage therapy can do on our Massage Therapy services page.

Book Before Chloe Fills Up

Trikinetic has been serving East Vancouver since 1993. In that time we have seen what consistent care does for people over months and years, not just individual appointments. Our Intern program is one more way we make that consistency achievable.

Chloe is now accepting new patients and availability is limited. Check our Intern Massage rates page to see current pricing and have a look at our FAQ page if you have questions about what to expect at your first appointment.
